Apple Sundried tomato Chutney

Apple sundried tomato chutney

There is a sign for a new beginning. Chirping birds, vibrant daffodils, fragrance wafting from the recent bloom indicate that the spring has finally arrived. Rain has made these plants ready for another memorable journey. And At last the brutal and long winter has come to an end. Sigh. What a relief. I never thought that I would hate winter, but this time it did test my patience. Now that the spring has arrived and things are slowly changing I really can’t wait to start wearing my flip flops and get rid of those bulky jackets. I guess this winter made me to go on a hibernating mode that I stayed away from my blog for more than few months. But past is past. Arrival of spring has changed my mood and I really want to get back to blogging. Thanks to all my friends who noted by absence and stopped by to leave a caring message. Your support did help me to get back my Mojo.

How it tasted?

Most of the times I crave for simple and homey food. And this chutney was made on one such day when I had cravings for Dosa and Chutney. This chutney is unbelievably yummy and easy to make. The sweetness from apple, tangy flavor from sun-dried tomatoes along with the heat from the red chili makes it a perfect combo for the south indian crepes.

  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – a big pinch
  • Split Urad dhal / Udacha uluttam paruppu / Split black gram – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing / Perungayam – Sprinkle little bit
  • Salt to taste
  • Water – 1/4 cup

  • Then add split urad dhal, asafoetida and Red chili. Saute for 10-20 seconds.
  • Add onion, salt and saute until translucent.
  • Then add sun-dried tomato and saute for a minute.
  • Add apple and saute until it starts becoming soft. Add water, close the lid and let it cook on a slow flame for 10 minutes or until the apple has turned mushy.  Adjust salt as per your taste buds.
  • Turn off and let it cool. Grind it in mixie/blender without adding water.

Notes

You can replace sun-dried tomatoes with fresh tomato(1) and it will work perfectly fine in this recipe.
